NHS Lanarkshire’s Public Health Protection Team and South Lanarkshire Council’s Environmental Health Services are investigating reports of possible food poisoning.
It follows reports from seven members of the public after they consumed food supplied by the Lane Diner, Cambuslang on Saturday 7 August 2010.
Dr David Cromie, Consultant in Public Health Medicine, NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Five of the seven have recovered, with two others still suffering some symptoms.
“The symptoms experienced by the seven were a combination of diarrhoea, sickness, vomiting and abdominal pain. All those who attended the party either have or will be contacted by public health staff or environmental health officers.
“Investigations are continuing to establish if there is a link with the food from the buffet. No specific link has been identified at this stage but NHS Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire Council Environmental Health Officers will work closely with the Lane Diner to investigate these reports of illness.
“The Lane Diner underwent a routine Food Hygiene inspection in April 2010 which was satisfactory.
“Environmental Health Officers carried out further inspections of the café on Monday 9 August following which the café and carryout part of the business can remain open. However, acting on advice, the Lane Diner has agreed to cease providing cold buffets to external events until the investigation is complete.”
