The new £4.6 million Douglas Street Community Health Clinic opened its doors on Monday 20 April.

The clinic provides modern, high-quality facilities for a range of primary care services including those currently based at Beckford Lodge, in Caird Street, which is just a few hundred metres away.

Geoff Sage, Hamilton locality general manager, said: “The creation of this community health clinic is excellent news for the people of Hamilton and surrounding areas.

“For patients and staff, it will offer a greatly improved environment that will allow services to modernise and work in new ways that were not possible in the previous, out-dated accommodation.”

Services provided at the new clinic include:

  • Dental Services
  • Physiotherapy Services
  • Podiatry Services
  • Psychiatry Services
  • Psychology Services
  • Speech & Language Therapy Services
  • Paediatric Occupational Therapy Services
  • Addictions Services
  • Outreach Consultant Clinics

The new community health clinic occupies the site of the former social security office, at 19 Douglas Street, and provides 2,322 square metres of accommodation over three floors.

Some building work is being undertaken to maximise the available space to provide improved accommodation for other local health services.

Geoff Sage continued: “Work is currently underway to identify which additional services could be located at the new health clinic.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while the extra building work is being undertaken.”
