Female fashion from every corner of Lanarkshire’s multi-ethnic community was celebrated at a prestigious fashion show.

The ‘One Gender Many Cultures’ fashion show, which took place at the Hilton Strathclyde, saw around 30 Lanarkshire women model a range of clothes reflecting the range of cultural backgrounds in the county.

Not only was it a cultural celebration awash with colour and style, it also raised funds for the cancer support charity Maggie’s Lanarkshire.

The event was organised by the Bellshill based group Humjolie in partnership with Maggie’s Lanarkshire and was supported by NHS Lanarkshire, Scottish Community Foundation Women’s Fund and all the North Lanarkshire Community Fora.

Humjolie provides a range of services to Asian women in Lanarkshire as well as a place for them to meet and discuss issues that are important to them.

The event featured fashions from Debenhams Silverburn, S Hayat Collections, the Asian Fashion Centre and Fox & Bhut with hairstyling by Uddingston based Rainbow Room International.

Anila Ansari, a community health educator with NHS Lanarkshire, said: "This fabulous fashion show not only gave Lanarkshire women the chance to get involved and raise awareness of the work of a valued charity, it was also be an opportunity for women from different cultural backgrounds to come together and promote community cohesion and celebrate diversity."

She added: "With Indian classical dance, Irish dance, a female DJ playing pop, bhangra and Bollywood music, and various raffle prizes, it also proved to be a great night out."
