Motherwell Men's Health Day

Free event to promote men's health

Susan Lyttle, Senior Health Promotion Officer, said: "Our event was designed to inspire and support men."

NHS Lanarkshire Motherwell locality hosted a men’s health day.
The free event took place at Braidhurst High School on Saturday 6 February 2010 from 11.00am till 3.00pm.

Event organiser Susan Lyttle, Senior Health Promotion Officer, said: “Although specifically targeted at men the event had something for all the family. For the kids there was a bouncy castle, sumo suits, a fire engine and face painting. Even women could benefit from the event as we gave the man in her life cooking demonstrations, with healthy, tasty and low-cost meal ideas.”

The event gave men the opportunity to sample a variety of activities that would appeal to all age groups, cultures and backgrounds.
Activities and stalls on the day included; fitness tests, beat the goalie and a wide selection of fitness equipment to try out, including trampolines.
There was also three Boxercise sessions to drop into.

A more serious side to the day focused on issues relevant to men’s health. Health professionals from NHS Lanarkshire were on hand to carry out health checks and gave information and advice on stopping smoking, safe drinking and prostate cancer.
Strathclyde Police brought along a weapons display and gave advice on avoiding violence and how to keep safe.

Susan added: “Our event was designed to inspire and support men and offered a day filled with a wide range of things to see and do with a number of stands, activities, demonstrations and entertainment. The event really did promise something for everyone."
