Podiatry services include:
Specialist
Diabetic and High risk care in the Acute (hospital) and Primary Care (community) settings. This service is for patients who have feet at risk from ulceration, infection and amputation.
Community and general podiatry
This service is responsible for delivering services within community clinics, residential and nursing homes and domiciliary visits.
Screening clinics
For existing and new diabetic patients.
New patient assessment clinics
For patients referred from GP practices and other sources.
Nail Surgery
This service is for the removal of ingrowing toenails, and other associated nail complications.
Foot Health Education
Provides advice to the general population, (community groups, schools, other health professionals) on all areas of foot care.
Foot care technicians
There to support and assist the podiatrist.
Biomechanic clinics
Provides assessment and treatment of unusual walking patterns, with the provision of insoles, supports and special footwear when required.
Additional podiatry responsibilities
- The podiatry service participates in providing placements for university podiatry students
- Staff are encouraged to attend in-house training on a regular basis, and participate in professional conferences, university and healthcare-related events
- Staff are encouraged to take part in clinical audit, research and develpoment with a view to publication
- Staff will liaise with other health care professionals, and refer when appropriate
