Palliative care drop-in services aim to maintain, and as far as possible, improve the quality of life for people faced with a progressive illness such as cancer, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis etc. This should be a positive experience that aims to enhance and supplement existing services involved in the patients care.
Dr Canning (St Andrew’s Hospice Consultant) holds a symptom control clinic every Wednesday afternoon – GP/Consultant letter required. No GP referrals are required to access other aspects of the service. There is a complementary therapist offering reiki, massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. A councellor has recently started one afternoon a week also.
Patients, family and friends can access all services freely. The day hospice is open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm. A volunteer will meet you on arrival and offer tea/coffee and then either introduce you to the nurse specialist or make a future appointment. If you would be interested in becoming a volunteer for the Kilbryde Day Hospice please get in touch.
