The Return to Practice course enables Nurses and Health Visitors to renew their registration with up-to-date knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe and effective standard of care – through demonstration of achievement of competence in clinical practice.
NHS Lanarkshire in partnership with the University of West Scotland is offering a 15-week programme, consisting of 10 days theory and a minimumof 12 days in a clinical placement of their choice, within a Primary or Acute setting.
The course programme is:
1 full week (5 days) in college, followed by a further 2 weeks of 3 days and 3 weeks at 1 day per week. The clinical placement of 12 days minimum commences in week 4; it is suggested that 1 or 2 days per week are spent in the clinical area.
Each participant will have supervised practice in the clinical area to assist in the achievement of individual learning outcomes and have supported reflective learning to meet the competency requirements of NHS Education for Scotland.
Each participant will have:
- Course fees paid
- Paid supervised practice – up to £150 max (30hrs or 4 days) each month, with the remainder paid in the last month
- Travel expenses to and from Bell College and the Clinical Placement
- Funding towards childcare costs (if applicable)(up to a maximum of £175 for childcare costs & travel expenses)
You will be expected to complete timesheets which will be must be signed off by your Ward Manager and forwarded to the Return to Practice Co-ordinator.
What do we mean by Expenses?
Travel Expenses
- Authorised car journeys in connection with the course and practice placements will be paid at 23p per mile
- Cost of parking – subject to production of original receipts
- Public transport costs – subject to production of original receipts
Childcare
Expenses for childcare will be paid at £2.50 per hour – subject to production of original receipts
How to Claim
You should complete an expense form and submit it along with the relevant original receipts to the Return to Nursing Co-ordinator. All forms will be given out at commencement of course. Additional information on the course can be obtained from Moira Gray on: 01698 366678.
