The maternity unit is working towards becoming a UNICEF Baby Friendly Accredited Hospital. We therefore have a clear breastfeeding policy, if you would like to obtain a copy of the policy speak to your midwife at the antenatal clinic, or call 01698 366473 and we will gladly send you a copy. (There is also a parent’s guide to the policy contained within the maternity care plan.)
If you would like more information on UNICEF and Baby Friendly Hospitals in the U.K. why not view the Baby Friendy Initiative website.
We would also recommend that you go along to your local Breastfeeding Workshop before the birth and Breastfeeding Support Group afterwards.
For further information on breastfeeding view the Lanarkshire Breastfeeding Initiative website.
If you choose not to breastfeed your baby, we will supply you with ready to feed artificial baby milk while in hospital. The varieties we supply are all “Whey based” milk formula, manufactured by the main baby milk producers in the UK.
“Whey based” milks are easier to digest and are recommended for babies from birth to one year old. You are free to choose any brand of baby milk, however we discourage changing brands of baby milk without first seeking the help of a health professional.
