Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Services
Each of Lanarkshire’s three general hospitals – Hairmyres, Wishaw and Monklands – have a specialist nursing and physiotherapy team aimed at helping patients recover from and manage heart attacks and heart disease.
A member of the Cardiac Rehabilitation team will visit patients admitted to hospital with a heart attack or coronary heart disease condition and provide them with information, support and advice. They will also be seen by a hospital dietician, who will help them devise a healthy eating plan and a pharmacist, who will explain their medication and how it can help their recovery. The team will also help patients develop an individual recovery plan specific to their condition, needs and lifestyle, including arranging access to NHS stop smoking classes if appropriate.
For suitable patients, there is the opportunity to take part in a 10-week exercise and rehabilitation course, with classes run twice a week at each hospital.
