GEM - Group for Expectant Mums
GEM (Group for Expectant Mums) supports pregnant women, and new mums with children up to two years old, who are substance misusers. The programme covers the South Lanarkshire Council area.
Women taking part in the group will be given extra help and information on:
- Breastfeeding.
- The impact of smoking, alcohol and drugs on an unborn child.
- Post natal depression.
- Building confidence and self esteem.
- Developing parenting skills.
The group also offers healthy food and sessions in relaxation and breathing techniques to give physical benefits.
GEM started in Hamilton in 2004 and has expanded to cover all of South Lanarkshire. The programme is linked to South Lanarkshire Council’s family support teams within Integrated Children Services.
