Breastfeeding Support

Because the breastfeeding rates in Lanarkshire are low (only 30% of Lanarkshire babies are breastfed) many local women, including grannies and aunts, may never have had an opportunity to watch a baby being breastfed and to an extent the skills for breastfeeding have been lost through the generations.

To 'fill the gap' the Lanarkshire Breastfeeding Initiative together with NHS Lanarkshire have set up many support opportunities for every stage of pregnancy and parenthood.

What Support is Available?

There are many information leaflets and booklets about breastfeeding available from NHS Lanarkshire but nothing beats face-to-face support! This includes:

This website also provides support information on the Hints and Tips page.

Ante-Natal Breastfeeding Advice

Before your baby is born you can also get a lot of help and advice at Breastfeeding Workshops.
