South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) signed up corporately to the Breastfeeding-Friendly Campaign in 2004 and a Breastfeeding Welcomed and Supported Here poster is displayed in areas of council premises where children are already allowed.
Several SLC staff groups, who have face to face contact with the general public, attended Breastfeeding Awareness sessions facilitated by members of NHS Lanarkshire Health Promotion Department.
The aim of the sessions was to provide participants with information about how they can support the campaign as well as the implications of invoking the Breastfeeding etc. (Scotland) Act 2005 as a council employee. The sessions were well received by participants.
