Radiology Review

Introduction

NHS Lanarkshire has been reviewing the provision of community radiology services across Lanarkshire.  The review started in January 2010 and involved a stakeholder engagement process to develop options for community radiology.

report explaining the review, its findings and proposed actions has now been developed.

Summary of review findings

The report findings identify that safer, more person-centred and more clinically effective services can be achieved from moving plain film x-rays from Coatbridge, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Health Centres to Monklands Hospital. The proposals also recommend that plain film x-rays move from Stonehouse Hospital to Hairmyres Hospital next year.

The main benefit for patients if these proposals are implemented is that with the technology available at Monklands and Hairmyres Hospitals patients will receive their results in a much shorter timeframe than is currently possible.  This improved access to results means that patients will be able to get any further tests required and start treatment at the earliest opportunity.

A discussion forum on the report findings will run on the NHS Lanarkshire Facebook page from 1 September to 14 September 2011.
