Alcohol Training and Learning

 Alcohol Brief Intervention (ABI) Training

Aim:

To equip participants with the knowledge and skills to more confidently deliver an Alcohol Brief Intervention (ABI).

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the prevalence of alcohol use in Scotland
  • Describe the health impact of alcohol use
  • Describe the guidelines for what is low risk alcohol consumption
  • Calculate units of alcohol
  • Describe how to use the FAST tool when carrying out an ABI
  • More confidently conduct an ABI

Target Audience:

NHS Lanarkshire staff who are expected to use the FAST Alcohol Screening tool and routinely conduct ABIs

Duration:

Half Day plus pre-course e-learning

Alcohol and Drugs in the Workplace

Aim:

This module will aim to increase knowledge of the learners regarding good practice and effective management within the workplace of drug and alcohol issues.

Learning Objectives:

This course will help to increase knowledge of alcohol and drugs in the workplace and good practice in relation to workplace policy and support.

Target Audience:

This course can be completed individually by all members of an organisation or as part of a blended learning course for managers.

Duration:

1.5 hours once, then refresher if required

Public Health Scotland Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
